Movi KIDS
abstract
Secondary objectives included: examining the impact on health-related quality of life, estimating the prevalence of thinness, overweight, and obesity, and evaluating the prevalence of ADHD. A randomized crossover trial was designed, involving 21 schools from Cuenca and Ciudad Real, Spain, with a total of 1,604 schoolchildren from the 3rd year of Early Childhood Education and the 1st year of Primary Education. The MOVI-KIDS intervention consisted of three 60-minute sessions of extracurricular physical activity per week. Additionally, families and teachers received educational materials with physical activity recommendations, and modifications were made to the school playground to promote physical activity during recess.
The prevalence of thinness, overweight, and obesity was 20.51%, 11.84%, and 8.58%, respectively, according to IOTF criteria. The prevalence of ADHD risk was 5.4%. By subtypes, the prevalence was 2.6% for the inattentive subtype, 1.5% for the hyperactive-impulsive subtype, and 1.3% for the combined subtype.
Younger schoolchildren (4-5 years old) and those with a low socioeconomic status showed a higher prevalence of ADHD risk compared to older schoolchildren (6 years old) and those with a medium or high socioeconomic status.
